About Camp Harambee
Update-Tuesday 9:30pm: We are watching outdoor air quality indexes for Wednesday and may reduce time spent training outdoors. Youth participants should bring indoor gym shoes/soccer flats in case we need to move to the gym.
Camp Harambee is a free three-day soccer training designed to celebrate the diversity of the Twin Cities soccer community. High school-aged boys and girls will participate in fun, high-level trainings and receive support from experienced coaches in the metro area. The camp also provides a chance for young coaches of color (ages 19-25) to volunteer, be mentored and support their younger peers.
Coaches and players from Minnesota United Football Club (MNUFC) will offer an academy-style training experience for participants on the final day of camp. A neighborhood-wide celebration with food trucks, live DJ, community art, and interactive games will follow. Blue Cross Blue Shield will also be on site with a mobile vaccination van for ages 12+.
Camp Harambee is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield and MNUFC in partnership with Hiawatha Academies, Augsburg University, Like A Girl, and studio in/visible.
Camp Harambee Details:
- FREE 3-day soccer skills and development camp – Monday through Wednesday, July 19 – 21
- High school-aged aged players who identify as People of Color
- Monday and Tuesday | Boys camp 9-12pm | Girls camp 1-4pm with local coaches
- Wednesday | All Players 9am-2pm | Youth Development Academy (YDA) style training with MNUFC Academy Coaches | Mini Career Panel
- Natural grass field at Hiawatha Academies High School, 3500 E 28th St, Minneapolis, MN 55406 (accessible via Greenway & Twin Cities Metro Transit)
- Opportunity for emerging young coaches of color to participate and receive mentoring from senior coaches
- Wednesday, July 21 Camp Harambee Celebration with food trucks, music, games and mobile vaccination van (Blue Cross Blue Shield, Johnson & Johnson vaccine, 18+)
- Meet and greet MNUFC Coaches, Player(s) and team mascot PK
- Players will receive gifts and giveaways (and memories)
